What is Workful

Have you always had questions about Workful and how we can help your small business? We sat down with our Director of Sales, Dennis O’Keefe, and got the answers to your questions.

What does Workful do?

Workful is an all-in-one small business suite. With a single username, you can handle basic HR functions, run payroll for your employees, pay your independent contractors, and review your employment tax liability. You can even choose to give your workers their own accounts, where they can update their tax withholding information, submit expense reimbursement requests, and ask for time off.

We started as a small business, so we know firsthand how difficult it can be to have one program to run payroll, a spreadsheet full of reimbursement requests, and a stack of timesheets for the week. When none of those things talk to each other, it’s way too easy to miss something.

Our vision is “to be the undisputed champion for your small business through understanding our audience and working tirelessly on their behalf.” What that boils down to is that every decision we make is to help make your life easier as a small business owner. We know you’re spending too much time in your business; we want to help you spend more time on your business.

What businesses can use Workful?

If you have 100 employees and want to use us, we’re not going to stop you. But we designed Workful for small businesses with 5 to 20 workers.

When you have a small team, it can feel like you’re in limbo. It takes too long to calculate checks by hand, but most payroll and HR systems were built for much larger companies. And, many of those programs are designed to do it all for you, which is not something many small businesses can afford.

Does that mean Workful is a do-it-yourself solution?

Yes. But, don’t let that scare you off because we designed Workful to be as easy to use as possible. You won’t have to spend hours setting up your account or learning how to use it. When you first sign up, we’ll take you through a short onboarding process that gives you a chance to learn the program and set up your account at the same time. Plus, you’ll have access to our sales and support teams to answer any questions you have.

Payroll taxes can be pretty complicated. Can you help with that?

Payroll taxes can be the most complicated part of hiring employees. Every state has different forms to file and different filing deadlines. Add federal forms, deposits, and deadlines into the mix, and it can quickly turn into a nightmare.

So, of course, we want to help you with that, too. When you run payroll through Workful, we’ll fill out your forms for you and let you know when each one is due. We’ll also let you know your federal and state tax liability.

If you haven’t filed state payroll tax forms before, you might not even know where to begin. We can also help you figure out how to register with your state departments.
